Can somebody assist with my central heating system breakdown

Although you don’t have to worry about heating in the warmer months, everybody needs hot water for washing up, showers and so on, which is why you never want to be caught out with a broken central heating boiler. A central heating boiler is that hidden part of the home which is rigorously used and not noticed until it stops working. Right away it comes to the front of the agenda with a recognition of its importance and the costly nature of its maintenance.

If you rent your home, you won’t have to worry about having some money aside for the heating boiler repairs; your landlord will cover it. However things are different if you own the house, you then need to keep aside some money for getting the heating boiler fixed in case it breaks down, unless you take out a central heating maintenance and repair plan.

You might consider investing in a new boiler model if your previous one is older than ten years, it would cut the cost of your fuel especially if the new one is a high-efficiency model and it would be less prone to breakdown. There are different options when it comes to choosing a new gas boiler and you should consider the space in your home, number of people you live with and your current heating boiler when it comes to figuring out which one suits you best. A combi boiler is the most widely known, and is good for small homes with few people, or people who don’t want to wait for their hot water. A combi gas boiler warms up the water as it flows through, removing the need to store the water in a hot water tank. Hot water can be produced any time and very quickly, but be careful as they have a limited capacity so the hot shower you are taking might suddenly become cold if several other hot taps are turned on at the same time.

Another type of heating boiler is the sealed system central heating system which has a hot water storage tank and is usually used for large families, as it allows several showers and hot water taps to work at the same time. This gas boiler can easily be installed within hours and doesn’t require excess space. The main disadvantage, however is that you will have to wait for the water in the tank to heat up.

An open vent gas boiler is the norm in most older homes, and takes up the most space; two water tanks in the loft and a storage cylinder in the airing cupboard. Like the sealed system, this type of central heating boiler can allow multiple outlets to draw hot water a the same time, but can also take a while to heat and doesn’t give the best water pressure.

Finally, a back gas boiler can allow multiple outlets of hot water at the same time, without loss of pressure; but they can take up a lot of space. Usually back boilers are kept in chimney breasts, but it is generally considered unwise to switch to a back boiler if you don’t already have one due to the higher installation costs. However, if you do already have a back boiler system installed in your home and it needs replacing, rather than getting a completely new system, it would be more sensible to get a new back gas boiler installed.

But, no matter what kind of heating boiler you have in your home it can be very expensive to repair. You can get some peace of mind if you take central heating insurance because if any thing goes wrong with your heating system your costs will be covered by the insurance supplier or utility company. A central heating system insurance policy including coverage for yearly boiler inspections and emergency servicing for repairs will go a long way in reducing your annual gas boiler maintenance expenses.
