Shrink your homes next gas charge
If we see the TV we all acknowledge that it is essential to cut gas consumption these days. gas costs seem as though they will increase for months to come and cutting your gas heating system gas consumption can only be a good thing. Whilst you use electricity and gas throughout your house you may find that up to one half of your gas charge relates to your gas heating system energy use. Every family should be able to reduce its heating costs by executing some of the advice we have outlined below.
Only use central heating when and where you need it :
Central heating radiators are made to be turned on and off. Have a look at whether there are any rooms in your home which are not being used and switch off the radiator there. You want to keep your household temperature comfortable that this doesn’t require you to heat rooms which are not going to be occupied for a number of days. If you keep the entrance door shut to the room it will prevent the flow of cold air around your home.
Don’t use the fire if you can use the central heating :
If the room needs to be warmer use thermostatically controlled radiator valves and increase the temperature setting. The presence of the flue means that a lot of the heat generated passes to the outside, modern central heating systems are much more efficient in heating your home than using an electric fire.
Cut down on draughts by use insulation
As chilled drafts blow into your home money flows out in the opposite direction. Pay particular care to your doors and insulate any obvious cracks. Block cracks in entrance door and window frames with a foam based sealer. These type of cracks happen often in aging homes as the foundations settle. Just light a wax candle in each room and see how the flame flutters to trace down sources of draughts.
Don’t switch up the heating, put on more clothing :
When you sense the room is a little chilly consider putting on some additional clothing in preference to turning up the room thermostat. Maintaining a 1 degree decrease on the thermostat can save up to tenpercent on your heating expenses.
Make good use of your drapes :
When the sun shines in the winter make sure that it can heat your house like keeping the drapes open. Your windowpanes can be the cause of a lot of heat loss at nighttime as external temperatures fall. Curtains can be an incremental form of insulation and this time and trim heat loss if they are shut, this can can save you real money in the longer term. The thicker your curtains the better for providing this incremental layer of insulation.
:
Some central heating systems have a hot water tank and this must be insulated. The hot water tank will hold hot water you have paid for and it is lunacy to allow this to cool down unused throughout the day time.
The use of shiny foil on the wall by your radiator can be used to reflect warmth into the room rather than out into the wall and the street.
