There are several form of central heating boiler
Various types of Gas Central Heating Systems are available in the heating market. Almost all these systems have a central heating boiler at the core, with pipework connecting it to heating radiators.
Due to the average temperature that is seen across the UK and northern Europe , people barely find the need for air conditioning. Central Heating is more in demand particularly in the chilly wintertime, making a Central Heating System an absolute must-have for all modern houses and all those located in the United Kingdom.
A reliable Central Heating system is important to keep your home warm especially during winter months. Only then you can relax and feel cosy inside your home. So you want to be sure that your Central Heating System is dependable. It is important to have peace of mind that your Central Heating System is not only practical to use but also safe.
There are two main types of Gas Central Heating Systems; pumped/vented and sealed systems.
Pumped/vented systems are the ones that many homes have and they have the most components resulting in potentially higher maintenance costs. Heating systems using the pump or vent process are equipped with a tank to allow for feeding of replacement water and expansion of heated water. Your heating radiators are heated and your water is stored in a hot water tank. Any water expansion that may occur due to heating is handled by the expansion tank. You will most likely find the expansion tank kept in the highest part of the house. It performs dual functions by providing hot water and heating up the house.
Older homes generally have pumped/vented Gas Central Heating systems.
A slightly newer, more up-to-date central heating boiler that many people are choosing over a pumped/vented Central Heating system is a sealed system. No water tanks are needed for a Sealed system as it is a completely closed setup saving space. There are no pipework or tanks also in the attic, the system is sealed in the true sense and it has its own advantages.
- There is no chance of pipes freezing in the attic.
- No maintenance work on the tank or pipes that would be in the loft in a pumped/vented system.
- Because the system is not vented, there is less chance of water leaking out.
- Unlike pumped/vented systems, air is not drawn through open vents so the possibility of airlocks, corrosion and sludge is much lower.
- The mains water supply can flush the sealed system if needed.
A sealed Central Heating System is a system with the required controls and safety equipment all contained in one. The water for the system is provided directly from the main water pipe of the house. The mains water goes straight to the sealed system.
A pressure vessel containing compressed gas, which is kept separate from the sealed system by a diaphragm, is used to allow any pressure variations. A safety valve will let water to escape or fill up depending on whether the pressure becomes too high or too low respectively.
Compared to any other form of heating, Central Heating systems are by far the most practical and economical. They offer you a lot more control of your home environment than the other heating systems.
